Natchitoches Central High School celebrated Black History Month Feb. 18 with a Black History Program organized by JROTC 1st Sgt. Michael Selby. After the National Anthem, Natchitoches Central student Dasani Hardison, center, became overcome with emotion as she sang “The Black National Anthem” Lift Every Voice and Sing. She paused near the song’s conclusion, but resumed with the support of her fellow singer, who placed a hand on her shoulder in solidarity, and the applause of surrounding students. Performances included Freedom Rhapsody by the NCHS orchestra, Stand Up performed by the JROTC and a poem read by Jamar Benjamin. Portraits inspired by historical figures in Black history flanked the orchestra performers.
