Lady Tiger softball heats up the base paths on chilly afternoon

The Saint Mary’s lady Tiger softball team started district action Wednesday afternoon against Northwood Lena. The Lady Tigers had a .500 record, 5-5 coming into the contest and have had their ups and downs this season.
They started the year with a 15-0 win over Caddo Magnet and dropped three games before besting Loyola prep 16-0 to start the month of March. The very young squad is poised to make some noise for several years to come. Grace Wren started on the mound for St. Mary’s. Northwood reached base on a fly to short right field. Two walks followed and the bases were loaded.
The Lady Tigers got out the inning yielding no run on one hit and stranding the three base runners. In the bottom of the frame, the Tigers really went to work.
St. Mary’s scored two runs early on wild pitches. Kennedy Griffin tripled and scored on an RBI single by Haylee Tousek past third.

Tyonnah Burton would add an RBI single, and the Lady Tigers led 6-0 with two outs. 12 runs would be tallied in the bottom of the first.
Burton started the second in relief of Wren. Burton gave up no runs in the inning. The second inning for St. Mary’s was almost as productive as the first. The Lady Tigers plated nine more runs to lead 21-0. Northwood would avoid the shut out with two runs scored in the third but that was all.
Saint Mary’s won going away 21-2 and will play 5A Parkway before continuing district on the road next week at Block.
