Dec. 8, 1937-March 10, 2022
Wanda Hughes Fletcher went to meet our heavenly Father March 10, 2022. She was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Liberty, Texas, to Irvin and Bonnie Hughes.
Wanda grew up in Beaumont, Texas, and graduated from South Park High School in 1955. After graduation she married Charles Fletcher of Nederland, Texas. Together they raised a son, Steve, and a daughter, Vickie.
Wanda loved collecting seashells and ceramic lighthouses. She had a close relationship with God and loved reading devotionals. She was a great practical joker and always looked for a way to make those around her laugh.
Wanda worked for most of her life in the banking industry. In the early 60s she rose to become the head bookkeeper at Beaumont State Bank, a position that was almost never given to a woman in that era. She was simply too good at her job to be denied.
Wanda is preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie, and brothers, James Clarence (JC) and Charles (Buddy) Hughes.
Wanda will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, Charles Fletcher; son, Steve; sister, Frances Sheffield; grandsons, Jason, Drew, Ronald, Vincent and Conner; granddaughters, Marcy, Rachel, Hannah and Molly; along with 12 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be March 19 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine, Beaumont, Texas. Visitation will begin at noon with services at 2 p.m.
