A stolen vehicle investigation in Ashland has led to the vehicle recovery and arrests of a man and woman in Conroe, Texas.
On Wednesday July 6, 2022 at approximately 6:27pm, Deputies responded July 6 at 6:27 p.m. to reports of a stolen vehicle in the 2400 block of La. Hwy 153 in Ashland.
The complainant stated his silver 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck had been stolen from his yard Wednesday between 7-10 a.m.
Items in the vehicle included fishing poles, a Yeti cooler, tools, freon gauge, a jump box and Hi-Point .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Deputies issued a BOLO message and had the vehicle entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as being stolen.
At approximately 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, Ashland Marshal Fred Holland and deputies responded to an area near the 2900 block of La. Hwy 153 in Ashland.
The owner of the vehicle reported that while riding around the area on his UTV, he discovered an abandoned vehicle in the woods off a high line clear cut.
Holland rode with the complainant on his UTV to the location of a red 1991 Nissan pickup truck.
An NCIC check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen to Rapides Sheriff’s Office July 2 from the Poland community.
Deputies also learned the pickup was reportedly involved in a gas drive-off theft from Sullivan’s Grocery in Bienville Parish the night before.
The store owner reportedly followed the truck to the Ashland area before losing sight of it.
Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Deputies are continuing their investigation into the gas theft.
The owner of the truck was notified and a local towing service was contacted to store the vehicle for processing.
NPSO detectives were contacted by the Conroe, Texas, Police Department Thursday reporting they had recovered the 2004 Chevrolet and had arrested Bobby Martin, 27, of Monroe and Sarah Read, 28, of Leesville.
Both are being detained in a Conroe jail on Texas charges and will be extradited to Natchitoches on a later date on Natchitoches Parish charges.
Martin is charged with felony theft, vehicle theft, possession of stolen things, theft of a firearm and criminal damage to property.
Read is charged with principal to felony theft, principal to vehicle theft, principal to possession of stolen things, principal to theft of a firearm and principal to criminal damage to property.
The investigation which involves the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
Detectives believe both suspects are connected to both vehicle thefts.
