After many years, Kym and Danie Habig handed over their baby, Cane River Kitchenware on Front Street, to new owners Jesse and Danielle “D” Smith during a going away/welcome party Thursday, July 28. The evening was full of dips and delights available in the store as well as tasty treats made by D’s Sweets bakery, also owned by D Smith. In addition, the store offers items from the couple’s third food centered business, Fit Fresh, a collection of fresh, homemade healthy meals including keto and diabetic friendly and general health. D’s Sweets offers a variety of fresh baked goodies such as baby bundt cakes, cupcakes, gourmet cookies and decorated cookies. A “game changer” and hit at the party was their QR code cookie, below, that guests could scan with their smartphones and be taken to their social media page. From left are employees Carol McPherson, Kevin Thomas, Katana Jackson. Catherine Faucheaux, owners D and Jesse Smith, and employees Lila Laroux, Savannah Valentine and Kevin Berry.
