Shooting on Independence Drive leaves one man hospitalized

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday, Aug. 6 at 10:16 p.m. that left a Natchitoches man hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
Deputies responded to two NATCOM 911 Center reports, one being shots fired in the area of Independence Drive just south of Natchitoches, and the other of bullets striking a residence and penetrating the bedroom wall of a juvenile in the 200 block of Independence Drive.
Units arrived on scene within 5 minutes.
Deputies spoke with the homeowner, collected information for an offense report then began to photograph and process the crime scene.
Deputies then began to walk along Independence Drive, discovering and collecting multiple fired bullet casings along the road.
Shortly thereafter, a Natchitoches Police Sergeant working a security detail at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center contacted NPSO reporting a 24-year-old man was brought to the emergency room by private vehicle and was suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
NPSO Criminal Investigations Division was notified and responded.
Detectives determined the shooting took place on Independence Drive due to evidence collected and a residence being struck by gunfire.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned the victim was visiting a friend in the area, when several subjects began shooting at him.
The victim was treated then airlifted to a trauma center in serious, but stable condition.
There are no suspects at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
