Fairview Dollar General approved

The Natchitoches Parish Council unanimously passed the motion to grant a permit to build a 10,000 square foot Dollar General store in Fairview Alpha. Councilman Marty Cheatwood, who represents the area, made the motion, seconded by Bill Allen. Councilman Jim Kilcoyne was absent.
Councilman Chris Paige made the statement prior to voting that there were some issues that had been resolved. A representative of the family that owned the property prior to the school board, Amy Vickers, contested the permit at the regular council meeting last week. The clause in the contract for first right of refusal to the family essentially had a 10 year limitation.
The school board then sold the property to Cason Leasing LLC, owner Edgar Cason.
With that issue cleared, the permit approval passed uncontested.
John Flippo with Dollar General said site preparation will begin as early as October and it should take approximately six months before the store is open. Half that time would be for exterior construction and the other half for interior build out.
The Fairview location is their mid-size model and will not have fresh produce, but will have a full refrigerated food line. By comparison, the Campti Dollar General is 12,000 square feet.
Flippo said they try to use local contractors and labor and keep the store locally staffed. Once established, the stores are sold to an independent owner/operator.
He also said Dollar General is actively looking for locations in communities throughout the parish. If you have land for sale for a store in your community, contact Flippo at 903-701-3232
