Just Talkin’ for Aug. 18, 2022

Alex Bregman is not Babe Ruth yet but he’s still a hero to Astros fans. And certainly to a young girl from Uvalde, Texas.
The Astros bussed some 500 Uvalde residents to Minute Maid Park this weekend giving them free tickets to the game and a meet-and-greet before the game with some Astros stars including Bregman. A young girl asked Bregman if he would hit a home run, and gosh darn, he did just that.
The former LSU baseball player hit a two-run homer in the first inning fulfilling the young fan’s request. Baseball fans, it just doesn’t get much better than that!
And for you youngsters out there, Babe Ruth once called a homerun by pointing to center field and slapped one over the dead-center fence in the fifth inning. It’s on film if you don’t believe it.
Bregman has a ways to go before he reaches the status of Babe Ruth. But he’s already there for that little girl from Uvalde.
JT learned over the weekend that the Demon football team will not have their first home game until the last Saturday in September. JT has told you on two different occasions that the NSU-Grambling game was a home game.
The schedule JT was using had the NSU-Grambling football game as a home game for the Demons. So he assumed it was at home in Natchitoches. However, after looking at other NSU schedules (Remember…NSU had to revise their original football schedule after several former Southland Conference teams returned to the conference) he found one that listed the game location at Independence Stadium In Shreveport.
So don’t show up on Sept. 10 at Turpin Stadium to see NSU take on Grambling.
The first three Saturdays in September will have the Demons in Montana, Shreveport and Southern Miss.
Speaking of football…JT watched a little of the Saints pre-season game against the Houston Texans on Saturday evening.
It wasn’t all that impressive..although Houston quarterback (and former La. Tech signal caller) Jeff Driskel looked pretty good. He led a fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Saints.
This Friday the Saints will take on Green Bay at 7 p.m.
JT ran across this interesting quote:
“Nothing is permanent. Don’t stress yourself too much, because no matter how bad the situation is….it will change.”
