Billie and Mary Ellen (LaCaze) Cook

Billie and Mary Ellen (LaCaze) Cook were married at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Aug. 31, 1957. They were high school sweethearts from the Natchitoches area, and both attended Northwestern State where Billie was a Hall of Fame baseball player and is one of only five players to have his number retired.
After college, Billie fulfilled his ROTC commitment and served over 20 years as a decorated officer in the US Army, while Mary Ellen commanded the fort, consisting of their four boys, Skipp, Steve, Chris and Mike, wherever they were stationed.

The couple is still “home base” for the family in Smithfield, Va., where the troop has grown to include the boys’ respective wives, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They continue to be active members in the community participating with groups like the Kiwanis and the Women’s Club.
They are role models as a loving couple, parents and grandparents for 65 years!
