Grand Jury indicts murder suspect


District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced Tuesday, Aug. 30 that a grand jury considered evidence and allegations regarding a May 2022 homicide in Campti.
As a result, the grand jury formally indicted Darrion Simmons, 20, of Campti with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Darnell Browder. Additionally, Simmons is charged with theft over $5,000 relating to two stolen all-terrain vehicles that were found near the homicide scene.
Simmons will be arraigned at a later date.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Darrion Lamar Simmons, 20, of the 200 block of Pasture Road, Campti, in connection with the May 26 shooting death of Darnell Jermaine Browder, 39, of Campti according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
Simmons was arrested Friday, June 3 at 6:33 p.m. at his residence without resistance.
He was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center (NPDC) charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Theft over $1,500. Bond was set at $1 million.
Sheriff Wright said the arrest stems from an investigation involving the collection of evidence, execution of search warrants, recovery of four stolen all terrain vehicles (ATVs), autopsy findings and interviews of several sources.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional arrests are possible. No further information will be released at this time.
The homicide investigation began Thursday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. when NATCOM 911 Center received reports of a male lying at the end of Roberson Street near the St. Paul Methodist Church in Campti.
Deputies and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded and discovered Browder’s body.
Sheriff Wright, District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington, NPSO Detectives, Campti Police, Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force agents and Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton responded.
Browder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clanton stated Browder died hours earlier as a result of gunshot wounds. The following day, sheriff’s detectives traveled to Shreveport to attend the autopsy.
