He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Salard Sr. and MaeBelle Ebert Salard; sister, Kathryn Morgan; brother, Joseph “Pete” Salard; and sister, Geneva Salard.
Paul Jr. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Daisy Longino Salard; sons, Paul Salard III and wife Carla, Charles Brent Salard and wife Argyn, and Michael Shaun Salard; 12 grandchildren, Theron Salard, who resided with his grandparents since he was 4 years old, Charles Salard, Jared Salard, Tiffani Salard, Shauna Smith, McKailey Salard, Meagan Busby, McKenzie Salard, Destiny Salard, Tarineka Jones, Hailey Dulay and Gavin Salard; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie Salard, Gabriel Salard, Draya Salard, Aubrey Smith and Hudson Busby. Paul Jr. loved his family and cherished each and every one of them.
Aside from his family, one of Paul Jr.’s greatest devotions was to the United States Navy. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951. During his service, he served in the Korean War. Paul Jr. retired honorably from the Navy after 11 years of service. He went on to pursue a career at sea working over 40 years as a tugboat and supply boat captain in the oil industry. These two careers allowed him to travel all over the world, but his favorite place was at home spending time with his family and cheering on his favorite sport teams, the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints and Boston Red Sox. He loved working outdoors in his yard and garden. He was a member at St. John the Baptist Church in Cloutierville.
We wish to thank Rhonda Carter, his first cousin, who cared and saw about him when he was sick, our dear friend Nazy LaCour, who took him to his doctor’s appointments; and to Christus Caprini Hospice, Alexandria.
Per his request he will be cremated. A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
