65th Annual Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet Scholarship Program to be held Wednesday

The University Programming Council at Northwestern State University will present the 65th Annual Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet Scholarship Program on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. There is no admission charge.

Five candidates will compete in the scholarship program, which is a preliminary for the Miss Louisiana Competition. The candidates are Destin Lopez of Lake Arthur, Madison Simms of Natchitoches, Keeley Trahan of Jennings, Grace Williamson of Lake Charles and Bailey Willis of Opelousas.

The winner will receive more than $8,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Lopez is a junior communication major and the daughter of Wayne and Christine Lopez.
She was active in the Student Government Association and was a member of the Louisiana Scholars’ College Forum Council. Lopez is a member of the Hispanic Student Government Association and is part of the NSU TV news team. She has made the Dean’s List and Honor Roll.

Simms is a sophomore biology major and is the daughter of Luke and Brandi Simms and Kristi Cooley Simms. She is a member of the Demon Dazzlers dance team, Phi Mu Fraternity and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Simms is a Dean’s List student.

Trahan is a junior secondary major and is the daughter of Michael and Jessica Trahan. A member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, she is also active in the University Programming Council. Trahan is a member of Educators Rising and the Demon Mentor Program and has been a Presidential Ambassador. She is a Dean’s List student.

Williamson is a sophomore dance major and is the daughter of Kristin and Bill Williamson. She is a member of the NSU Dance Company and has been part of the cast of Modern in Motion and the Christmas Gala. Williamson is an honor roll student.

Willis is a junior secondary education major and is the daughter of Christopher Willis and Alvada Willis. She is president of the Student Government Association and participated in the Lamar Governor’s Fellows Program. Willis is a member of Helping Hands, Kappa Phi, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the African-American Caucus and the Presidential Leadership Program. She was a freshman orientation leader and Demon peer mentor.
