Back in action, the Chiefs traveled to Southwood High School in Shreveport Friday, Sept. 23 for a non-district match-up. Natchitoches Central defeated the Southwood Cowboys 37-6 last year, and they were forecasting another win.
Both teams’ defense appeared evenly matched in the first quarter, which ended 0-0. The Chiefs found their groove during the second quarter, with junior wide receiver Camryn Davis scoring a 9-yard rushing touchdown. The conversion failed on an incomplete pass.

Senior Jeremiah Miles scored the second touchdown during the third quarter on a two-yard run. A successful throw from quarterback Adam Guillet to Branden Woods on the two-point conversion put the Chiefs up 14-0. After an offensive line-up change, sophomore quarterback Lannon Collum successfully threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Miles. A failed pass left the score 20-0.
On why the Chiefs were so successful, senior linebacker Logan Saucier says, “We made a lot of adjustments after our last game against Alexandria. We’ve been focused at practice and I think it paid off.” With only a minute and a half left in the fourth quarter, junior running back Zion Thompson scored a rushing 15-yard touchdown. A faultless kick ended the game 27-0, Chiefs. Next Friday is a game not to be missed. Natchitoches Central will host Benton High School Friday, Oct. 7, for their Homecoming game. Come see the Chiefs take on the Benton Tigers 7 p.m. at Turpin stadium.
