A service celebrating the life of Sandra Kay Smith Garrett will be held at Coulee Bethel Baptist Church Oct. 24 with Jeff Mahloch officiating. Burial will follow at Coulee Bethel Cemetery in Campti.
Sandra Kay Garrett, 73, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born to Billy and Ida Smith March 22, 1949, in Natchitoches and raised on the Coulee.
She graduated from Campti High School. Sandra was lovingly known by her family as “MoMo”. She married the love of her life, Curtis Garrett Sr., on Oct. 10, 1969. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with endless love and precious memories. During her life she loved to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren, whether it was playing cornhole, a game that she would give anyone a run for their money playing, playing bingo, or simply sitting around the kitchen table laughing, eating her husband’s cooking and playing cards, or sitting at the piano. Sandra was a gifted quilter and crocheter. She also loved going to the casino. She left an impact on everyone she encountered. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for being a truly loving wife, mother, MoMo, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Ida Smith; as well as her sister, Sue Grappe.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Curtis Garrett Sr.; their children, Curtis Garrett Jr. and fiancé Leslie Mauthe, Eric Garrett and wife Ceri, and Rita Garrett; grandchildren, Stefanie Haddenham and husband Michael, Madelyn, Makinzy Jones and husband Mason, Masen, Chloe, Brett, Abby, Nathan Poche Jr. and wife Holley, Tyler Poche and wife Joanna, Malayna, Tristan and Viola; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Grappe and husband Buford; and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends who are like family.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Nathan Poche Jr., Tyler Poche, Ross Brossette, Masen Garrett, Brett Mauthe and Tristan Garrett.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mason Jones.
