Deputies recover stolen BMW; arrest made


A Harris County, Texas, man has been arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle recovered Monday, Oct. 24. At approximately 2:14 p.m., NATCOM 911 Center received information of a stolen 2022 BMW X2 SUV in the Sportsman’s Lodge Road area north of Campti.
The vehicle, reportedly taken from a BMW dealership parking lot, was reported stolen to Cleveland, Texas, Police Department Monday, then entered into the National Crime Information Center as a “stolen vehicle”.
The vehicle is valued at approximately $38,000.
NATCOM 911 Center issued a BOLO message to deputies assigned to patrol duties in north Natchitoches Parish.
Deputy B. Keyser responded to the area and began to look for the vehicle.
Shortly after arriving Dep. Keyser observed the vehicle parked on the side of the road near a residence, with a male standing nearby.
Deputies confirmed the vehicle as stolen.
Deputies identified the male standing near the vehicle as Michael Nelson Jr., 40, of the 4600 block of Market Street, Houston, Texas.
Deputies say while speaking with Nelson and discovering the keys to the vehicle in his pocket, they placed him under arrest informing him the vehicle was stolen. Nelson replied, “I didn’t steal it-the keys were in it”.
Nelson was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Felony-Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
Nelson remains in the NPDC awaiting extradition to Texas.
Additional charges are pending in Texas.
The vehicle was impounded by a local towing service for safekeeping until it could be picked up by the dealership.
