Johnnie was born to Margaret Conday and Sye Young Jan. 8, 1953 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family Oct. 26, 2022, at the age of 69. He was raised in Melrose.
Funeral services will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. Resolution/Remarks will be given at the Repast after burial.
On Dec. 24, 1976, he united in Holy Matrimony to Freddie Ficklin. To this union, three children were born, Charles (Frederick), Anecia (Shaun) and Johnnie (Wayne). He and Freddie moved to Alexandria where they lived for a short time before returning to Natchitoches where they lived until the time of his death.
Johnnie was the definition of a hard worker. He sometimes worked multiple jobs and always provided for his family. He retired from Budweiser in 2014 after 30 years. Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Johnnie and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. Johnnie always had a warm smile when he greeted you and would give you the shirt off his back. If you knew him you would know that he cherished his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his siblings. They were his pride and joy. He also loved spending his time with racing horses. He spent a great majority of his younger life racing horses at Fairgrounds or Evangeline Downs.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Conday; father, Sye Young; stepfather, George Harris; brothers, Sye Young Jr., James Young and Bobby Young.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Freddie Young; sons, Charles F. Young Sr., (Felicia) of Mustang, Okla., and Johnny D. Young Sr. of Natchitoches; daughter, Anecia Marshall (Kyle) of Lafayette; grandchildren, Johnnie Young Jr. (DJ), Charles Young Jr. (CJ), Jaden Marshall and Chase Marshall; godsons, Zell Henderson and Marcus Conday; aunt, Erma Payne; stepmother, Merdis Harris; and a host of extended family and friends.
