oe Duirden, a senior at Natchitoches Central, has qualified for the state competition after a successful cross-country season. The only runner to qualify this year, he hopes to best his personal record of 16 minutes, 32 seconds at the state meet.
Of his preparation Duirden says, “Over the summer, I put in a bunch of miles which helped me improve my times. Once I began practicing with my team, I built a great bond. I started winning races and getting my times faster.”
A competitive time for cross country is generally recognized as anything between 15-18 minutes, so Duirden proves to be a talented runner.
Looking towards the state match, he says, “I’m looking to beat my PR, but with God willing, I’d love to get under 16 minutes. I want to be happy with the way I ran and finished my senior cross-country season.” The state meet was Monday, Nov. 14, at Northwestern State University.
