According to Sheriff Stuart Wright, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office is investigating the sudden death of an offender at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.   Offender Mr. Carlos Thomas, 45, was transported Nov. 10 to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center after complaints of severe back pain.

Thomas suddenly became unresponsive in the ambulance as he was being transported.  Life saving efforts were conducted by medical staff at NRMC, but were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced deceased.

Thomas was transported to Natchitoches Oct. 14 by the United States Marshals Service to await trial proceedings stemming from previous federal charges. An autopsy is being conducted to verify the cause of Thomas’ death. The results of the autopsy are pending.
