Lynwood Ray Powell Sr. passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2022, in Natchitoches at the age of 87. Lynwood (aka Dooley), the youngest of three children, was born in Natchitoches to Stonewall Jackson Powell and his wife Grace Oct. 4, 1935.
After graduation from Natchitoches Central High School, Lynwood married his high school sweetheart Myrtle (nee Blanchard) and chose to serve his country by enlisting in the Navy for 10 years of honorable service. Lynwood and Myrtle traveled extensively during his time in the Navy before returning to settle and raise their family in their hometown, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Northwestern State University. He then began his career at Valley Electric Co-op, where he stayed until his retirement.
Lynwood was an accomplished amateur photographer and lifelong avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrtle; his children, Lynwood Jr., Donna, Jeffrey and Jerry; grandchildren, Michael, Karey, Hannah, Kristopher, Grey and Lyndsey; and great-grandchildren, Terry, Harley and Lincoln.
A visitation for Lynwood will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 2, from 9 – 11 a.m. A chapel service will be from 11 a.m. – noon followed by a procession to Memorial Lawn Cemetery. All are invited to attend.
