The fireworks sales season continues through 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 1. The State Fire Marshal reminds all to be safe when not only using fireworks, but also when buying them.
The SFM encourages, first and foremost, that families choose to enjoy public fireworks displays over creating their own. However, if purchasing fireworks is your preference, families are reminded to be mindful of whether the stand they are purchasing from has been permitted.
And, here are fireworks safety tips for those who wish to set them off from home: detonate devices at least 200 feet away from structures, vehicles and rubbish; never allow children to light fireworks; never operate fireworks while impaired; light devices one at a time and monitor embers released with a bucket of water or hose nearby; and discard detonated items by wetting them down to prevent re-ignition and waiting to dispose of them in a trash container.
