Henry Mel Teekell, 90, a native of Coushatta, LA entered his eternal rest on Saturday, Jan.28, 2023 in Natchitoches, LA.
Better known as “Uncle Henry,” he is survived by his nieces Sharon Teekell Smith and husband Ronnie Smith, Cynthia Teekell Jacobs and husband Dale Jacobs, Charlene Teekell Locke and husband Ricky Locke; nephew Tracy Mel Teekell and wife Mary Teekell; along with a host of great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Everett Teekell and Ruth Genoa Teekell; brother, Charley Joe Teekell; nephew, Joe Glen Teekell; and great nephew, Shannon Blaine Smith; great niece, Amanda Elizabeth Moran; and great-great niece, Hannah Elizabeth Moran.
Uncle Henry was a high school graduate of Coushatta High School and a college graduate of Northwestern State University. Henry served in the Korean War in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he returned to Louisiana where he began teaching elementary school in Bossier Parish and Red River Parish for over 30 years. He was proud to be an educator and touched the lives of many children. He had an undeniable love for his family. He enjoyed visiting his nieces, nephews, and their families. Bringing the family children candy and toys is a cherished memory of all his family members. Uncle Henry was the tie that bound his family. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He was saved by his Lord and Savior and was member of Calvary Baptist Church in Natchitoches. Uncle Henry never missed a wedding, graduation, baptism, rodeo, ballgame, or any event that was meant to be a cherished family gathering. Part of his love for family led him to find passion for genealogy. He wanted his family to know the importance of their heritage. Uncle Henry was an avid reader and loved to travel.
Uncle Henry will dearly be missed and cherished by all who knew and loved him. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Tracy Teekell, Blake Teekell, Joel Teekell, Ty Moran, Eric French, and Ronnie Smith. Honorary pallbearers include: Damian Locke, Ryan Locke, Ricky Locke, Dale Jacobs, and Bill Lewis.
Brother T J Boyd will officiate his services at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. He will be laid to rest at Hand Cemetery in Coushatta with Military Graveside Rites. Family will receive friends Friday from noon until service time at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel.
