Sherry Janell Scarbrough Mitchell, age 68, of Provencal, LA, passed away on May 1, 2023.
Sherry was born on July 29, 1954 to the late J.B. and Lucille Scarbrough in Natchitoches, LA.
After graduation from Provencal, she started her main career in the medical field, serving many positions with over 30 years’ experience, with her latest position in day surgery / endoscopy.
Sherry always went over and beyond in caring for her patients and anyone who was in need.
Sherry had no children of her own, but she took the role of a “Mother Hen” to her beloved family, young and old.
After Sherry’s years of work, she enjoyed her time entertaining her family with cooking delicious meals, playing Rook cards, and keeping her house, yard, and vehicle spotless.
The Saturday morning breakfast menu consisted of biscuits, gravy, bacon, eggs, oatmeal and coffee and she always expected her family to be there. Saturday evenings consisted of preparing meals and playing Rook for hours on end. Sherry’s Friday nights consisted of playing barbie dolls with her great niece Brooklyn. She loved all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Lucille Johnson Scarbrough; her grandparents, Osie and Rosie Scarbrough and A. N. and Lydia Martin Johnson; siblings, an infant sister; Lavelle Scarbrough, Barbara Graves (Floyd) and Joey Scarbrough.
She is survived by her siblings, Jean Huff, Dennis Scarbrough (Renee’), Sue Turnley (Kenny), and Becky Broadway (Randy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Provencal Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jimmie Freeman and Bro. Ralph Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow at Provencal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time on Friday May 5 at Provencal Free Methodist Church located at 4510 N Blvd., Provencal, LA 71468.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Joseph Huff, Danny Graves, Dwain Turnley, Wade Scarbrough, Daigan Scarbrough, Christopher Orsborn and Adam Outlaw.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Natchitoches for their services of care and compassion.
