SWEPCO crews were in the Village of Natchez Wednesday morning restoring power to residents, the oxidation ponds and left stations after tree limbs falling from a pecan tree felled a power line during the severe thunderstorms and heavy rains that moved through the Parish Tuesday night and into the morning. The power went out at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning and was restored at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mayor Patsy Ward Hoover thanked the workers and electric company for their quick action, saying sewer would have backed up into all Village homes had they not responded in a timely manner. The Islanders took an early lead for the second time in the series and left-hander Zach Garcia made it stand up as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi clinched the series with a 72 win at Brown-Stroud Field.

Sports writers Ardoin & Higgins to be inducted into Hall of Fame in June

Two versatile and acclaimed sports writers, Opelousas’ Bobby Ardoin and Ron Higgins of Baton Rouge, have been selected for the 2024 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. The duo will be inducted in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame June 22 Ardoin and Higgins began their decorated sports writing careers in the 1970s and are still producing compelling content today, having made the shift from newspaper to online publications. Ardoin, an Opelousas resident, is the backbone of St. Landry Today. Baton Rouge native and resident Higgins covers LSU for the Journal Services network, including the Shreveport-Bossier Journal and Rapides Parish Journal. Both have written for a variety of state publications and dabbled in broadcast journalism while covering professional, college, amateur and high school sports since their teenage years, and have amassed a wide array of honors.

This original slim document has now blossomed into the nation’s seventh longest state charter with over 83,000 words. The United States constitution, written in 1787, only has 4543 words.
