‘Fort Fest’ will celebrate Fort Jesup’s anniversary

Fort Jesup State Historic Site and the Fort Jesup Nazarene Camp Grounds will have a day of historic and contemporary festival activities Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. to celebrate Fort Jesup’s 195th anniversary.

There will be living history demonstrations, historic weapons, frontier games, artifact displays, military camps, drills and campfire cooking.

Modern festival activities include a bounce house, a “Forts Got Talent” competition, arm wrestling competition, a pie eating contest, hay ride, face painting, historic and modern games, food and craft vendors, dance-off, DJ and live music. Exhibits will showcase artifacts and information on the Mexican War, Civil War and World War II.

There will be a benefit concert Saturday at 7 p.m. featuring the BeauShyne Band. All day passes are $5 and children under 5 are admitted free. The festival entrance will be at the Fort Jesup Nazarene Camp Grounds. All proceeds will go towards Fort Jesup and to improve the museum.
