Cooking safety is fire prevention week theme

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-18 and this year’s’ theme is “Cooking Safety Starts With YOU.” Pay attention to fire prevention, said Fire Chief John Wynn, who went on to say cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires.

Kiwanis will cook pancakes, host race

The Kiwanis Club annual fundraising run and pancake breakfast takes place at Northwestern State University’s Collin’s Pavilion Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 8 a.m. It includes a one-mile fun run and 5K Color Run with medals for both races.
