Henry DeBlieux, Joe Norman, Dale DeBlieux, Danny Todd, my brother Tommy, and I constructed quite an underground hideout on Cane River.
It was located on the high bank of the river, just up from the Chamber of Commerce.
We Tom Sawyers were in grades 4 to 6 at St. Mary’s Academy. First we dug out a room floor, about 8 x 10, into the side of the bank. We bermed it, and created a roof of old tin, lumber and dirt. It had one entrance.
