At the Parish Council meeting in August, the members introduced an ordinance adding a new section to the charter that authorizes hiring more employees to assist the Council members in carrying out its duties and responsibilities. Those employees will serve at the pleasure of the Council and with a majority vote, the Council can set the salaries of those employees.
T hey will handle such jobs as supervising summer workers and Northwestern State interns, grant writing, day-to-day operations and other miscellaneous jobs. The Council now has one employee, a clerk, who keeps the journal of the meetings, is the secretary to the Council and performs duties assigned by the Council members. The Council believes that According to the Home Rule Charter, that one employee cannot perform duties other than those specified in the charter.
Parishwide Charter Amendment- Amends Section 2-09-PC Shall Section 2-09 of the Home Rule Charter for Natchitoches Parish be amended as set forth in Ordinance No. 015-2024 be adopted by the Natchitoches Parish Council (the “Council”) on September 16, 2024, to provide that the Council, may, by ordinance approved by a majority vote, authorize the hiring of employees as may be necessary to assist the Council in carrying out its duties and responsibilities and fix the salaries of such employees, which such employees shall serve at the pleasure of the Council?
