The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday evening on July Street. On Sept. 24, at 6:45 p.m. officers with the Natchitoches Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of July Street in reference to gunshots in the area.
While officers were responding they were notified of a possible gunshot victim at a residence. Upon arrival officers were told the victim, Matthew Daniels (B/M, 17, of Natchitoches), had left the scene and was taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle. Daniels was later pronounced deceased at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center as a result of his injuries.
Investigators and officers canvassed the crime scene and were able to speak with several witnesses. They also collected numerous pieces of evidence that will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.
