Clarence Green Sept. 25, 1941 Dec. 1, 2023
Benjamin (Benny) Clarence Greene was born Sept. 25, 1941 in Natchitoches, LA to his beloved mother, Isabelle Gandy Greene and father Clarence Earl Greene.
He passed away peacefully on Dec. 1 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. at Bellwood Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Matkin and Buster Jordan officiating.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 5-8 p.m. at Bellwood Baptist Church.
Benny is survived by his most important assets, his children. Samuel Greene (Molly Greene) and Jennifer Greene Anderson (Michael Caspari), were born with his first wife, Marilyn Young Greene, who predeceased him; Emmett (EL) Greene (Trista Gordy), Christina Greene, Benjamin Greene Jr. (Brittany Coco) and Liza Jane Greene Brazil (Blaze Brazil), were born with Christy Kirkland Greene. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, first wife Marilyn Young Greene, his first baby girl, and his best friend for life Rickie Lane Yopp.
Benny moved often as a child due to his father’s work and graduated high school in Guymon, OK. He soon joined the United States Navy in 1962 where he was an electrician aboard the U.S.S. Maury.
After 5 minutes in a room with Benny, you would hear at least one Navy story. He cherished his time and friendships he made, but especially being discharged at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he continued to live for a season. Once back in Louisiana, he obtained his master’s degree in electronic engineering from Northwestern State University. Benny went on to retire from Conoco in 1992 as a systems analyst.
But as accomplished and successful as Benny was in his education and career (and pool playing), he was first and foremost a musician. He loved a myriad of music and could play most musical instruments. But we are certain he loved his vintage Gretsch guitar in Firebird Red more than his children. But his family loved to listen to him sing and play the piano. He was born with music inside him, as thick as blood, it was a necessity for life.
His grandchildren are honored to serve as pallbearers, Samuel Greene Jr., Apollo Greene, Caden Greene, Skylar Greene, Garrett Anderson and Fisher Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers are Haelyn Brazil, Crew Brazil, Hayven Greene and Tucker Greene and Brandi Smith.
The family extends a loving thank you to Mrs. Patsy Robertson for her love and care of their dad. She was a blessing from God. Also, to Roger and Connie Matkin for all the prayers and support. And special thanks to Hospice of Natchitoches for their outstanding and professional care.
