4-H Fishing Finatics

The 4-H Fishing “Fin”atics kicked off its club year with an exciting meeting on Cane River. Returning members and brand-new participants gathered for an afternoon of fishing and fun. It was an exciting meeting, with members catching a variety of fish species. Participants were able to practice their casting technique with a fun, inflatable casting game. Several members learned how to use a spinning reel and were able to fish with one for the first time. They also practiced safe handling of the fish, hook removal, and release of the fish. One highlight of the meeting was when a returning Fishing “Fin”atic introduced all to a fish species the club has never seen before. She caught a log perch, a small fish with striking features. The 4-H Fishing “Fin”atics are off to a great start, and members are looking forward to future fishing adventures. The club continues to inspire youth to connect with nature, develop lifelong skills, and nurture a passion for fishing. The club looks forward to an exciting season on the waters of Natchitoches Parish!
