City announces rural and small violent crime reduction grant

Natchitoches Mayor Ronnie Williams, Jr., announces an additional effort to address the nationwide rise in crime and enhance community safety. The Strategic Enforcement to Reduce Violence through Engaging the Natchitoches Community, SERVE Natchitoches, is a multifaceted, comprehensive initiative with aims to implement evidencebased strategies that foster collaboration among law enforcement and the Natchitoches Community.

The City of Natchitoches has been awarded the Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program Award for 3 years. Natchitoches is one of only 12 cities nationwide to be awarded funding this cycle through the Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program. Grant expenditures will include $73,340 in cameras and pedestals as well as $126,301 allocated for personnel.

Personnel expenditures will fund training expenses including equipment acquisition and instructor certifications for Senior Patrol employees, Citizen Academy, and Rape Aggression Defense (RAD).
