Fields, Trump heading to Washington once again

Democrat Cleo Fields won the seat for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District, the state’s new majority-Black district encompassing 10 parishes including Natchitoches Parish, according to complete but unofficial results on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.

Fields, a Democrat, received 51 percent of the vote. Challenger Elbert Guillory, a Republican, drew 38 percent of the 296,011 votes cast. Democrats Quentin Anthony Anderson, Peter Williams and Wilken Jones, Jr., drew 8 percent, two percent and one percent, respectively. Overall voter turnout was 59 percent.

While Fields came out as the overall frontrunner, the breakdown of Natchitoches Parish voters was Guillory with 57 percent or 8,145 votes of the 14,365 votes cast and Fields drawing 34 percent equating to 4,870 votes.
