Judge dismisses wrongful death suit against NSU
The wrong death lawsuit against Northwestern State University in connection with the death of former NSU football player Ronnie Caldwell, Jr. has been dismissed with prejudice, which means a case cannot be refilled.
10th Judicial District Court Judge Lala Sylvester issued the ruling late last week. Earlier this year, the plaintiffs claims against Brad Laird, who was the NSU football coach at the time of the death, were also dismissed with full prejudice.
Ronnie Caldwell, Jr, 21, was shot and killed on Oct. 21, 2023, in his apartment at the Quad Apartments, an off- campus complex across the highway from Northwestern. Nobody has been charged with his death, however, two were arrested on drug and gun charges.
