Last week, Malcolm and I attended the Young at Heart at First United Methodist Church. The guest was Ed Huey and he had his daughter Jane with him. Mr. Huey graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor of Music Education. He married Sharon King and had two children. In 1986 he graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Master’s of Vocal Music Performance. He taught 25 years at Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN. He retired and moved back to Natchitoches in 2012. He is active with local bands including Hardrick Rivers Revue, Cane Mutiny, Snake Doctors and Back Porch Band. In 2016 he was recognized by Lt. Gov. Nungesser and the State as a tradition bearer for his work in traditional blues music. In 2017 he was inducted into La. Folk Music Hall of Fame.
He played several songs on the harmonica, most of which I didn’t know. But he played very well.
October birthdays celebrated were Cyril Moreland and Preston Durr. Anniversaries celebrated were Harvey and Judy Polk.
