Chadwick Jerod “Rod” Nelson, II January 5, 2003 July 21, 2024
Chadwick Jerod “Rod” Nelson, II, a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend, passed away suddenly on July 21, 2024 in his hometown community of “Cane River,” Louisiana. Born to Chad J. and Deirdre Christophe-Nelson on January 5, 2003, in Alexandria, LA, he was welcomed into this world by a host of loved ones that eagerly anticipated his arrival. Rod’s life was one of kindness, tenderness, youthful exuberance and unmatched love. Rod had the kindest spirit and it was evident to all that he encountered. He was known for his ability to light up a room and his readiness to embark on new adventures. Those who knew him best knew that Rod was a young man of deep faith and had an intense love of the Lord.
Rod attended NSU Elementary and Middle Schools. He went on to graduate as an honor student from Natchitoches Central High School in 2021. His intelligence and mild manner shone brightly in and out of the classroom, earning the admiration of both teachers and peers. In school, Rod enjoyed cross country running and was a member of the NCHS track team. Rod was also a gifted musician and was in the Middle Lab and Natchitoches Central Orchestra. He excelled and achieved being first chair playing violin. He went on to attend Northwestern State University until deciding to enter the workforce. Rod worked in the oil industry and recently moved on to Alliance Compressors in Natchitoches.
Left to cherish his precious memories, Rod leaves behind his loving parents, Chad and Deirdre Christophe-Nelson and his sisters Anastasia (Ann Marie) and Kennedi Nelson. He also is survived and deeply missed by his maternal grandparents, Sam and Anastasia Christophe; paternal grandparents Wilbert and Eulilia “Candy” Nelson, Jr., Dana “DJ” and Ava Hollingsworth; Four aunts: April (Reggie) Jones, Anastasia Lyn (Miguel) Jones, Heather (Darrell) Bradley and Larissa Nelson; three uncles: Sam (Lacy) Christophe II, Jonathan (Alicia) Christophe and Matthew Nelson; two paternal great-grandmothers: Henrietta Crew and Emma Washington; and a host of great aunts and uncles, great-great aunts and uncles, cousins, extended family and cherished friends. Rod was preceded in death by his maternal greatgrandparents Herman and Orena Christophe, Rainey and Lair LaCour and paternal great-grandfathers Wilbert D. Nelson, Sr. and Henry L. Washington.
Celebration of the Life and Legacy of this unforgettable young man affectionately known as Rod will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle on Saturday, July 27, 2024 with visitation in the church sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rod will be Entombed in the Church’s Mausoleum.
