After a lengthy illness, Karen Dodd took her last breath and entered eternal rest into the arms of Jesus in the early hours of March 15, 2024.
She was the 10th of 12 children born to Fred E Welch and Edna Morean Welch on January 10, 1942. Karen is survived by her devoted loving husband of 61 years, James E Dodd, her daughters Melanie Lowe (Jesse), Terri Clements, grandsons Andrew Lowe and John R Clements, Jr, granddaughter Shelby Napier (Justin) and great-granddaughter Brylee Napier. She is also survived by brother Jimmy Welch (Loretta) and brothers-in-law Roland Dodd (Marilyn) and Alton Dodd (Sandra) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Karen in death are her parents, siblings Mack, Freddie Lee, Carlos, Theda, Yvonne, O.K., Gay, Bill, Sam, Reba and infant grandson James Henry Clements.
An NSU retiree, Karen was Athletic Fieldhouse secretary for many years for now retired A.D. Tynes Hildebrand and most recently retired Greg Burke. She saw many athletes, coaches, interns and visitors come through the doors and greeted all with her beautiful smile and southern charm.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the respectful loving care given by Hand in Hand Hospiceespecially Devaughn, Melissa and Lauren as well as Dr. Mary Long, her physician.
A memorial service will be held at a future location and date in Natchitoches around the beginning of the summer. An announcement will be posted on Blanchard St. Denis website and Natchitoches Times when the service is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes anyone wanting to pay tribute to Karen, to make a contribution to the church or charity of your choice in her loving memory.
