Lula Mae “Toot” LaCour

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lula Mae “Toot” LaCour will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with the Rev. Bill Gearheard serving as celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 910:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 10:05 am.

Lula Mae LaCour was born Dec. 9, 1935, to the union of Joseph Macon LaCour and Maziel Coutee LaCour. She passed away March 2, 2024, while in rehab at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Alexandria at the age of 88.

She worked as a teacher’s aide at Cloutierville Elementary /Jr. High School for 20+ years. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church while also serving as a member of The Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Joshua Upshaw and a son-in-law, Travis Upshaw.

Her great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. When they were around, she did not have time to remember she was sick because they kept her entertained. If ever she was feeling bad, we knew if the kids went to visit, she would suddenly feel better and want to get out of bed. She loved them and they certainly loved her.

She is survived by her daughters Brenda Upshaw and Sherri Conde (Lamarr); a sister, Theresa Brossett (Isaac); grandchildren, Danielle Conde Oliphant (Jay D.) and Lamarr McGaskey Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dawson Oliphant and Paisley Oliphant; nieces, Angela Okorie (Sunday), Cynthia Sanders (George), Catherine Llorance (Benjamin Jr.) and Linda Pichon; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Benjamin Llorance Jr., Benjamin Llorance III, Jerry Coutee, Jay D. Oliphant Jr., Lamarr McGaskey Jr., and George Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lamarr McGaskey Sr., Sunday Okorie, Isaac Brossett, Curtis McGaskey II, and Darren Coutee.
