Norma Jan Hubbard Gill Lea July 6, 1948 Jan. 23, 2024
Norma Jan Hubbard Gill Lea “Nanny” passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at the age of 75 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA.
She was born July 6, 1948 in Coushatta, LA and later moved to Elizabeth, LA at a young age with her family. She attended her school days there, later marrying Wayne Gill and they had two children, Kenny and Kimberly.
During her life, Jan was a Sunday school teacher, earned her beautician license, was a homemaker, waitress, heavy equipment operator, worked on the line at the Sunbeam factory, and she truly enjoyed driving semitrucks cross-country then settled into being Nanny to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She spent her later years in Fairview Alpha.
Jan will always be remembered for her home cooking for family get-togethers and special occasions, but mostly for her affectionate protection over her grandchildren, friends and family. She so enjoyed teaching her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the art of creating unique sweets and desserts, which they made often.
The celebration of Jan’s life was held at 11a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Matt Endris of Fairview Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held from 9 a.m.. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Mutt (Ovelia) Hubbard; and twin sister, Dorma Ann Hubbard.
She is survived by her son, Kenny Gill and Callie Canterbury; daughter, Kimberly Gill Sepulvado and Kevin Jones; one brother, Gill Hubbard and wife, Janetta; one sister, Joy Cunningham and husband, Bill; five grandchildren: Kaitlyn Sepulvado Gray, Michael Gill, Chelsea Gill Freeman, Cade Sepulvado, and Kassie Sepulvado; five greatgrandchildren: Riley Freeman, Hayden Freeman, Ezra Gill, Sawyer Gill, and Eleanor Gill and one on the way, Camber Sepulvado.
Pallbearers were Peyton Freeman, Michael Gill, Michael Gray, Shane Hubbard, Joshua Jones, Cade Sepulvado, Kassie Sepulvado, and Jack Vailes. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Cunningham, Mack Dickson, and David Lea.
The family would like to thank Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, LA and Heart of Hospice for their care and concern during Jan’s days there.
