Patricia Ruth Sutton Godwin, age 82, of Goldonna, LA, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2025. Pat was born on Dec. 28, 1942, in Grapevine, TX to the late Raymond L. Sutton and Marie Gorham Sutton.
A loving wife, mother, Granny, sister, aunt and friend, she devoted her life to her family. She loved hunting, fishing, gardening, hiking, traveling, and spending time at the lake house on Clear Lake.
But nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by her family. She was also an entrepreneur, teaching herself how to be a taxidermist and being the owner/operator of Pat’s Country Corner in Goldonna for 20 years. Everyone knew “Ms. Pat”, and she was an ardent supporter of the Goldonna community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Marie Sutton; her daughter, Shirley Forsythe Futrell; her brother Richard Sutton; and sisters, Neva Sutton Darling, Betty Marie Sutton Moore, and Dottie Sutton Harston.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 15 years, Norvell C. Godwin; daughter, Glenda “Susie” Forsythe Hiles (Mark); stepchildren Delane Godwin (Kayla) and Rachel Casson (Corey); brother Frank Sutton (Carolyn); and brotherin- law Gary Moore; 11 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; 4 greatgreat grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Pat will be held in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in, Winnfield, LA,on Oct. 18, 2025, at 2 p.m., with a visitation from 12 – 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
As we reflect on the passing of a truly remarkable woman, we remember Pat for the warmth she shared and the lasting impact she made on the lives around her.
We also celebrate the light she gave so generously and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in peace, forever held in the hearts of those who loved her.
