And Victoria Wiggins believes in tomorrow. The precocious and energetic teen used her perky personality and winning ways to get funding for and plant a community educational garden with the inspiration coming from 4-H. Victoria recently showed the results of her hard work and ingenuity at a ribbon-cutting where her own words best describe what she accomplished.
Now, without further ado, let’s cut the ribbon and officially open our community educational garden!
Thanks to a generous $20,000 grant from KidsGardening and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, who believe that a garden has the power to do more than just grow flowers and herbs, we have been able to bring this dream to life.
My journey to this moment began with my involvement in 4-H, where I learned about the significance of healthy living, the detrimental effects of food insecurity, and the transformative power of community service. These experiences ignited a passion within me to create something meaningful for our community—a garden that not only grows plants but also nurtures knowledge, health, and community spirit.
My goal for this garden is to educate the youth about the joys and benefits of gardening and healthy living. I believe that through this garden, we can inspire a new generation to appreciate the importance of sustainability, community, and wellness.
As you look around, you can see the fruits of this wonderful collaboration. This garden is not just a space for plants to grow but a living classroom where our youth can learn about gardening, healthy living, and the environment.
This project would not have been possible without the unwavering support of several key partners. The 4-H organization has been instrumental in providing guidance and encouragement from the very beginning. The Natchitoches Parish School Board and the City of Natchitoches, represented by Dr. Eloi and Mayor Williams, have matched resources and services every step of the way, ensuring that this garden could flourish. Their commitment to this project highlights the strength and unity of our community.
