Sale on Trail will be May 3-4

The El Camino Real Sale on the Trail will take place Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, along 100+ miles of the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas from Natchitoches, to Nacogdoches, Tx. Locals and visitors may travel the trail over the two days for hot sales and deals, food, vegetables, plants, flowers, art, antiques, and homemade, unique treasures.

Power restored to most following thunderstorms

The severe weather complete with heavy rains and thunderstorms ths week knocked out power for some 2,500 Natchitoches Parish residents. As of press time Friday linemen had restored electricity to all but five customers. There are no reported power outages for the 567 local Cleco Power customers. Entergy reports all but one of its 737 local customers has electricity. SWEPCO says all but four of its 12,011 Natchitoches Parish customers have electricity.

State Fair has new partnership

The State Fair of Louisiana is has announced its partnership with Talley Amusements to create a new carnival experience for attendees. Known for exceptional work at fairs across the nation, including the Ohio State Fair, Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, and the State Fair of Texas. Talley Amusements will bring their expertise to elevate the fair to new heights.

Northwestern State University will hold Spring Commencement exercises Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9, in Prather Coliseum. During ceremonies at 10 a.m.

Historic Foundation will host Roque House dedication, gala

The Natchitoches Historic Foundation (NHF) is hosting a dedication ceremony and gala to commemorate the completion of the Pacale`-Roque House restoration project located on the Cane River Lake downtown riverbank. The dedication will take place Thursday, May 9, at 2 p.m., on the grounds of the Pacale`-Roque House. The public invited to attend at no charge.

JROTC students show up for autism walk and donate money

On Saturday the JROTC Chiefs Battalion from Natchitoches Central High School showed up to support Voices for Autism with their March for Autism Awareness. The cadets generously donated $250 to the cause and walked the designated route alongside District 5 Board Member Lela Harvey, calling cadence and carrying signs related to autism awareness.

NSU professional chosen to be CelebrateHER honoree

A Northwestern State University early childhood professional is among several accomplished women recognized as a CelebrateHER honoree by the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce. Melanie LeDay-Albarado is a childcare specialist, master coach and program coordinator for CDA (Child Development Associate) and ECAC (Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate) programs at Northwestern State University’s Child and Family Network, as well as owner of a business that seeks to educate through baking and cake decorating.
