Arrests in Steven Burke case

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright announces that three suspects are in custody in connection with the two-year investigation into the disappearance of Steven W. Burkett of Marthaville.  At the time of his disappearance, Burkett was 49-years-of-age. Sheriff Wright said detectives are currently conducting interviews, and attempting to gather additional details in the case. The Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office and Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office is assisting. The investigation is progressing, however, to protect the integrity of the case, no further details are being released, said authorities.  Those with information about the case call the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau at 318/357-7830. Case Agent is Detective Major Jonathon Byles. Human remains presumed to be that of Burkett were found in May 2024.  The remains were transported to a lab in Baton Rouge for examination and positive identification.   The investigation initially began in Feb. 2022 when a female friend of Burkett contacted the sheriff’s office reporting him missing under suspicious circumstances.
