Strong, upper level high pressure aloft during the first of July caused record heat for Natchitoches Parish. For Natchitoches record daily highest minimum temperatures were observed as follows: July 3, 80 degrees, July 4, 78 degrees, July 5, 80 degrees. For the afternoon of July 5, a 102degree high temperature was observed. This value tied and replaced 1954 daily heat record for the date.
