The new home for the Roque House and its support building for rentals and weddings are closer to completion. Folks are reminded the new building is new construction, thus you see steel beams on the roof. Additionally, due to extensive damage, some replacement was necessary in restoration of the 1803 Creole Style house. Challenges included damaged support beams and rotten roof shingles. Wood and other materials as close to the original were used including using no nails and hand-hewn materials to maintain the craftsmanship. The first panel of Preservationist Wall has been engraved, too. The Natchitoches Historic Foundation and the Cane River Waterway Commission have partnered on the preservation and renovation project.
