Village of Natchez Mayor Patsy Ward Hoover points to an integral part of the village’s new sewer system that was paid for with a $1.5 million grant. If the Village Council fails to approve a rate increase, the La. Office of Community Development Local Government Assistance will require the village to repay the $1.5 million.
It didn’t take long for the Village of Natchez to receive a letter from the state saying it would need to pay back the grant proceeds it received to build the new sewer system, unless they take action to increase sewer rates.
A condition of receiving the $1.5 million grant proceeds was to complete a rate study and implement the utility rates as outlined in the study.
