The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Cane River Chapter presented Youth Citizenship Awards to two students at Natchitoches Jr. High.

Musical will have second run this week

The NSU Summer Dinner Theatre will present the music revue “Country Summer Nights” July 1 21-25 on the stage of the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Pia Wyatt is the director. Jason Thomas is the musical director.Tickets are $60.

Area 4-H members among contest winners at 4-H University

At the 112th 4-H University, the “Krewe De 4-H U” let the good times roll, with Louisiana’s 4-H annual celebration on the LSU main campus. Maddox Fieldhouse was turned into a grand event space for the awards ceremony, where winners and new officers were revealed.

State economy posts strong quarter

Leaders for a Better Louisiana today released its Quarterly Economic Update on Louisiana, a data-driven review of how the state’s economy performed in the second quarter of 2026 relative to its 15 Southern peers. The picture it paints is generally positive, though not without some caution flags.

Northwestern coordinator earns Higher Ed Art Education Award

The Louisiana Art Education Association has named Dr. Leslie Gruesbeck recipient of the 2026 Higher Education Art Educator award for outstanding service and achievement. The award recognizes outstanding service and achievement by university or college-level visual arts educators.

Painting course will be in August

Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Engagement will offer a Pick Up Your Brush painting classes Aug. 13.In these classes, students learn the art of painting using step-bystep instructions to create a masterpiece of their own.

FAUNA will host bath day for dogs Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Tractor Supply at 345 South Drive.Baths are $10 for dogs, over 60 pounds $15, nails $10 and anal glands $10. State Farm and Cane’s are also sponsors.

NSU will offer Notary Exam prep course Aug. 17-Oct. 15

Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Engagement will offer a Notary Public Exam Prep class starting Aug. 17. Early bird registration is available through July 28 at a cost of $499. After July 28, registration will continue through Aug. 11 at a cost of $519.
