Jack was born March 1, 1949 to John L. Avant and Genevieve Rhorer Avant in Baton Rouge, LA. He lost his hard fought, but mercifully short, battle with cancer on September 1, 2026, in his home in Greenville, TX.
Jack graduated from Highland Elementary, Robert E. Lee HS and the University of Texas, later earning a Master of Education degree from Northwestern State University.
He taught at various rural schools in Texas and Louisiana, retiring in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Danny, and his son Daniel Benjamin Avant. He is survived by his wife, Erin Geagon and his sons Collis and James.
He loved the peace of the countryside, and will be buried at New Harmony Church in Equality, AL.
Jack will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. His passing will leave a hole in the hearts of well-loved family and friends from all of the places he called home.
