Council on Aging offers varied activities and support for seniors

Today’s Senior Centers are places of discovery, encouraging older adults to discover their unique interests, talents, and aspirations. Senior Centers offer a vibrant, action-packed combination of food and meal services, fitness activities, BINGO, support groups and job/volunteering opportunities as well as daily services for those who cannot provide it for themselves.

Senior centers have evolved to provide online fitness, fun activities, support groups, and grab-andgo meals. September has been National Senior Center Month, sponsored by the National Council on Aging, and Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging (NPCOA) is celebrating exploration, self-discovery, and individuality for older adults.

From financial planning and Medicare fraud workshops to health and wellness, dance, and technology classes, NPCOA is a community hub where older adults can find friendship, meaning, and purpose. In recognition of Senior Center Month, NPCOA invites members and especially new visitors to stop by and find out more about what their local senior center has to offer.

David Bowie once said, ‘Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.’ Our members discover their best selves every day,” said Alice Barrios, NPCOA Executive Director. They demand the opportunity to continue connecting, exploring, and expressing their individuality. We serve them and this community the best we can with fun, informative, and engaging programs, while also providing practical tools and resources to help them stay healthy and independent.”

Senior Center Month emphasizes the tremendous potential senior centers deliver in their communities, including programming that empowers older adults to holistically age well and strengthen mind, body, spirit, and community connections.
