JT heard someone say the other day, “My mouth is like a magician’s hat. You never know what’s coming out of it.”
The same can be said about our U.S. House of Representatives.
The removal of the Speaker of the House this week is unprecedented in our country’s history.
What comes next is anyone’s guess…. but it certainly won’t be unity.
What is certain is that turmoil and strife will continue.
—— JT thought that absentee voting last Saturday would be a real challenge…but he was wrong.
Despite what appeared to be record crowds at the Antique Car Show downtown, JT had no problem finding a parking spot to vote. Once inside the Courthouse the process was quick.
Just a reminder…the ballot is pretty long so you might want to get a preview of it before voting. JT doesn’t believe any voting locations changed…but whom you can vote for probably did because of reapportionment. A lot of the district lines were re-drawn so you should check to see if your districts were affected.
It’s like when JT heard a Judge scold a new attorney in the courtroom years ago. He pointedly told the attorney “You should never ask a question of a witness that you don’t already know the answer to.” Likewise, you shouldn’t be surprised what’s on your ballot when you arrive at the voting booth.
Absentee voting continues this week through Saturday but if you want to vote in person, you may do that on Saturday, October 14.
—— JT has noticed an uptick in some barbs being taken by the candidate or by the Political Action Committees (PAC) supporting them. In the old days it was called “mud slinging”. The theory was you throw a lot of claims against a candidate some could be true and some not and you see what sticks.
PAC’s are supposed to be completely separated from candidates and the candidate doesn’t have any control over them. JT thinks there’s a lot of “winking” going on there.
Take for example; JT got a piece in the mail from a PAC endorsing a particular candidate. The candidate happened to be Chairman of the caucus that created by the PAC.
As your mailboxes are bombarded with flyers…check the source of the flyer first.
