The southbound lane of Central Avenue at University Parkway was shuttered Wednesday night when a large tree fell across the road blocking traffic and closing NSU’s Central Ave. gate. Natchitoches parish has experienced heavy rains over the last several days. High winds and heavy rain combined can create a perfect storm for tree-related hazards. Saturated soil makes it easier for trees to uproot and strong winds can break branches or topple entire trees.
